What's coming: Summer 2020

Updated: Jun 26, 2020

As you guys probably know, Salesforce is rolling out Summer '20 very soon and as with every release, tons of new features will become available.

Here's a quick overview of what's coming in Sales Cloud!

For Users:

Split List views:

While that feature was already available for the Console Apps, you can now also use the split view in any Lightning App! This is a huge time saver whenever you need to go through multiple records. Learn more in the release notes.

Mobile app:

Multiple improvements for the Salesforce mobile app and the Lightning Experience is now available on IPad!

Learn more in the release notes.

For Admins:

In-App Guidance improvements:

This is huge! In-App Guidance was already an amazing way to help your user use your app, but now, it gets even better. The entire system has been improved with a "Lightning Page Builder" experience, allowing you to really personalize how you can help your users.

Learn all about it in the release notes.

Surveys:

Alright, so Salesforce surveys were released back in Summer '19, but now they just got some serious improvements.

You can now turn responses into records, customize the survey by using your org data and easily make them public and shareable with a QR code.

The best part is that this is completely free with most Salesforce editions.

Lightning Scheduler:

The scheduler got a lot of improvements to allow a more streamlined and easy experience for your customers, like anonymous scheduling and automatic resource assignment.

Learn more in the release notes.

Dynamic forms (*not GA):

If you asked me what is the best part of this release, I would definitely answer Dynamic Forms.

Dynamic forms allow you to customize the fields displayed on a record page with the same experience and builder as a Lightning Page. You can show/hide fields depending on custom criteria, you can change where and how fields are displayed, basically, it's the next generation of Layouts.

While this is not yet generally available, I am really excited that this is released and can't wait for it to be available everywhere.

Learn more about it here.

Flows:

Salesforce is working really hard on making Flows the new go-to tool for automations. After improving the flow builder experience last year and allowing Scheduled flows in the Spring 20, it is now possible to trigger a flow whenever a record is saved! You no longer need a Process Builder to start the Flow!

Learn all about Flows improvements here!

For Devs:

Apex:

A lot of minor improvements for Apex, like better control on serialization, increase in Push Notification limits and better visibility on the concurrent Long-Running Apex Limit,

Lightning Message Service:

The Lightning Message Service allows you to easily communicate between all Salesforce UI technologies, making it possible to interact with older VisualForce Page or Aura components directly from your new modern Lightning Web Components. This is incredible for backward compatibility.

Learn more in the release notes!

Lightning Web Components:

Multiple reusability improvements like sharing CSS between your components but also making them generic by supporting the SObject type.

See all new features in the release notes.

Org dependant unlocked package:

If you ever tried to split your org into smaller packages, you know how hard it is. Org dependant unlocked package is a great way to get started because it allows you to create a package linked to your org that will only get validated after the installation. That means you can still have some dependencies with the org while you work on splitting it completely!

Get more details here!

Platform Events:

You can now trigger a flow when a Platform Event is received. This is an easy way to consume Platform Events and enables admins to use them easily.

More details in the release notes.

There's a lot more for everyone in that release, but those are what I consider the biggest changes.

To learn about all those changes, use the official summer '20 Release Notes website.
